De Lima a political prisoner? Duterte asks: Since when?

Mar 20, 2017 @ 12:06

President Rodrigo Duterte has scoffed at Senator Leila de Lima’s claim that she is the first political prisoner under his administration.

Facing the Filipino community in Myanmar Sunday (March 19), Duterte asked: “Sabihin niya political prisoner daw siya. Since when? Since when ako nagpakulong ng oposisyon diyan?”

The President then made a reference to the sex video allegedly starring De Lima.

“Siya ‘yang may… nagpavideo, nakita na ba ninyo ‘yun? Osiya ‘yung nag.. because… ‘yan ang pinakatragedy natin,” he said.

Duterte insisted that De Lima was involved in the illegal drug trade when she was justice secretary.

“It was the Secretary of Justice herself running, trafficking drugs. Kaya sabi maraming patay. Totoo ‘yan,” he said.

De Lima is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame on drug charges filed by the Department of Justice.

She has decried the move as an example of political harassment for speaking out against Duterte.
