What debt? Germany reacts to Trump’s tweet
Germany has responded to the claim that it owes the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) “vast sums.”
US President Donald Trump made the claim through Twitter on March 18.
He also said that the US should be paid more for the “expensive” defense it provides to Germany.
“There is no debt account at NATO,” Reuters, in an article published online on March 19, quoted German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen as saying in a statement on Sunday.
“Defense spending also goes into UN peacekeeping missions, into our European missions and into our contribution to the fight against IS terrorism,” von der Leyen said.
