‘Di dapat lumaya! Group wants Jinggoy detained again
Ombudsman Samuel Martires has been asked to seek the return of former Senator Jinggoy Estrada back to detention.
“The undersigned would like to request this Honorable Office, for the sake of the Filipino people, to avail of the appropriate remedy, including, but not limited to, the filing of motion for reconsideration or a petition for certiorari for grave abuse of discretion on the part of the anti-graft court,” said Filipinos Opposed to Corruption and Unjust System (FOCUS) spokesperson Jun Braga in his letter to Martires.
“We are hoping that you would take this request with your preferential attention if only give justice to the Filipino people against the long time practice of our politicians of subverting the rule of law in their favor because of their money, power, and influence,” he added.
Last Sept. 2017, the Sandiganbayan 5th Division has issued a resolution which granted Estrada’s petition for bail.
The ruling allowed Estrada to be released from detention at the Custodial Center of the Philippine National Police (PNP) where he got detained for over three years.
Estrada is facing plunder and 11 counts of graft in connection with the pork barrel scam.
Under the charges, Estrada is accused of having received from 2004 to 2012 kickbacks amounting to P183.793 million from alleged pork barrel scam queen Janet Lim Napoles by coursing his Priority Development Assistance Fund through bogus non-government organziations.
