Di na gumanda serbisyo niyo! Duterte calls PLDT-Smart, Globe Telecoms ‘lousy’
President Rodrigo Duterte said the services of PLDT-Smart and Globe Telecoms leave much to be desired so he decided to let a third player into the telecommunications industry.
In a speech at a private event in Cebu Tuesday (February 13), Duterte said he wanted a frequency available for the third telco player so it can operate and go against the duopoly.
“Nagsabi ako may reserba na frequency which we can offer. Kasi gusto ko third player. Because itong dalawa, lousy eh. They have never improved their service and that is the universal complaint,” he said.
Duterte recalled being angry when he was told at a recent Cabinet meeting that the government will have to shell out P3 billion to get the frequency obtained for free by a shell company of PLDT-Smart.
“Sabi ko, P*****. I will pay you a visit and you will be slapped. That was given by the government for free. Tapos hiningi ko na ngayon kay hindi mo ginagamit, pabayarin mo ako. Unggoy kayo,” he said.
Despite their scheming ways, Duterte clarified that he is not angry at the duopoly of PLDT-Smart and Globe Telecoms.
“Hindi ako galit sa kanila. Ayaw ko lang ‘yang style na ganun,” he said.
PLDT-Smart returned the frequency Duterte wanted for free after Malacañang shared the President’s threat for businessman Manny V. Pangilinan not to “f*ck with government.”
