Di na magre-resign? Duterte wants to finish term
Despite his repeated threats of resigning, President Rodrigo Duterte on Friday (October 7) said he plans to finish his term in 2022.
In an exclusive interview with Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson, Duterte said he “pray[s] for guidance” in leading the country because of the various problems it faces.
“I intend to serve the full term with God’s will,” he said in the interview, the video of which was posted on Uson’s Facebook page.
Duterte, however, admitted that he was “unhappy” being President because of the responsibilities it entails.
The 72-year-old President shared that he usually has a long day because he still signs several documents when he arrives at his official residence at Bahay Pagbabago inside Malacanang compound late at night.
“At my age, maligaya pa ako, mukhang hindi kasi medyo pagod ako,” he said.
Duterte admitted that while quitting will allow him to have more time for himself, he cannot do it because of his “covenant” with the Filipino people.
“Ang agreement natin is I will serve you for six years,” he said.
Duterte has repeatedly floated the idea of resigning should there be any proof that he or his children are involved in corruption.
Last week, he offered to resign if Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales will do the same.
