Di pwedeng sorry lang! Bam mulls filing case vs. Aguirre for false Marawi meeting claim
Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV is considering filing a case against Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II for falsely claiming he met with other opposition politikos in Marawi City prior to the attack by the Maute group last May.
This, even if Aquino admitted that Aguirre has apologized to him over the phone.
“There are some groups who have come to me and said we should file cases para talagang klaro na mali itong nangyari at nagawa nya and we’re still still looking at that. Tinitingnan natin kung magandang course of action poi yon,” Aquino said at a news forum in the Senate Thursday (June 8).
More than being a personal issue, Aquino said Aguirre’s claim is also an institutional matter because he heads the Department of Justice.
“Hindi lang po ito basta basta na ‘bro, sorry huh nagkamali ako.’ Hindi lang kasi ganun ‘yun. This was said by the secretary of justice regarding sitting senators of the Philippines. Hindi sya light a accusation. (It’s) probably the heaviest accusation na you’re in cahoots with terrorists,” he said.
Aguirre has drawn criticism for claiming that Aquino met with Senator Sonny Trillanes, Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano, former Presidential Adviser on Political Affairs Ronald Llamas met with local leaders in Marawi City before the Mautes staged their attack on May 23.
Aquino said he is hopeful Aguirre will be more responsible with his statements after his accusation was proven wrong.
“Iyon ang hinihiling natin sa kanya, maging fair sya, maging responsible sya at ‘yung mga statement nya, i-verify nya at the minimum at huwag syang making sa fake news,” he said.
