Di tatantanan! Palace: PH to work with US for return of Balangiga bells
The Philippine government will continue to work with the United States for the return of the Balangiga bells stolen by American troops in 1901, Malacañang said Sunday (July 30).
Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella made the statement in response to us Ambassador Sung Kim’s remark that they are trying “to reach an early resolution on the Balangiga bells.”
“The Balangiga bells, as the President mentioned, are an important part of our national heritage,” he said.
“The government is also committed to continue to lay the path towards the restoration of our dignity as a nation,” Abella added.
Duterte demanded that the US return the bells in his State of the Nation Address on July 24.
