Dig some more: Guevarra orders NBi to conduct deeper probe on 9 Negros farmers’ slay
Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has instructed the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct a further investigation in the killing of nine farm workers in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Guevarra said on Thursday (Nov. 8) that he has received the latest report of the NBI regarding its investigation but did not provide details of its contents.
“NBI has submitted a progress report. I directed them to investigate more deeply,” he said.
Guevarra gave the directive to the NBI to investigate the killings last Oct. 23 following calls for him to give the order for the probe.
Reports said that on the morning of Oct. 20 farm workers from the National Federation of Sugar Workers (NFSW) entered Hacienda Nene in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
However, some 40 armed men went in Hacienda Nene that night and approached the group which were fired upon.
Nine were killed from the incident including three who were burned by the suspects.
