Duterte admits drug war can’t be won in 5 years: Di nga kaya ng Amerika, tayo pa?
Despite an aggressive anti-narcotics campaign, President Rodrigo Duterte has admitted he cannot completely eradicate the drug menace until the end of his term.
In a speech before businessmen at the Edsa Shangri-La hotel Wednesday (August 9), Duterte acknowledged the seriousness of fighting the illegal drug trade.
“Look, itong shabu and drugs, et cetera, cannot be solved by one man for a President for one term. It has bogged nations. Hindi nga kaya ng Amerika, tayo pa?” he said.
Duterte, however, said he remains determined as ever to fight the spread of illegal drugs. He reiterated his threat to kill those who use and peddel illegal substances.
“Ako, madali lang talaga kung gusto lang ninyo, I can maybe reduce the drug people by almost one half tomorrow. But ‘yung lahat makita ko diyan sa kanto, nagpapabili ngayon, talagang papatayin ko ‘yan,” he said.
