Duterte admits PH in trouble: Local criminals in cahoots with Abu Sayyaf in kidnapping

President Rodrigo Duterte revealed that he is moving closer to using his final option on the Islamic State-linked Abu Sayyaf terrorists after getting intelligence report that they have joined forces with local criminals for their kidnapping operations.

“We are in a bind because the local criminals are in cahoots or has had connections with the Abu Sayyaf in Jolo and Zamboanga,” said Duterte in an interview in Bohol.

Duterte revealed how criminals use their kidnap victims as commodities for sale to the Abu Sayyf which could demand a higher ransom and hold the victims longer.

“Ang nangyayari dito is they kidnapped itong mga small time lang dito, those who do not want to really to be carrying the kidnapped victims. So they sell them to another group which is bigger and eventually selling it to the group in Mindanao and then you have a problem,” said Duterte.

Duterte was recently in Bohol for the ASEAN Ministers’ meeting which was nearly marred by a terrorist attack if the military and police had not uncovered the presence of Abu Sayyaf on the island province.

“It was very lucky indeed that the ISIS was or the group of ISIS who were there, particularly led by Rami, ‘yung spokesman ng Abu Sayyaf na — ‘yung maingay na mayabang. Eh kasali siya doon. The soldier who killed him also was killed in the process. It was a duel shootout,” said Duterte.

Duterte ewas referring to Muamar Askali, alias Abu Rami, who was the Abu Sayyaf spokesperson and the prime suspect in the kidnapping of foreign hostages. Askali was killed along with five other Abu Sayyaf members in a clash with military and police at Inabanga, Bohol last April 11.

Dutert’s first stop upon arrival from the Middle East was to attend the wke of the soldier who killed Rami. “it was really very poignant because I — for the first time, I laid a Gold Cross. Hindi lahat ng sundalo makakuha ng ganon. And there’s always a time when I visit itong mga patay na ano… I usually make a salute to honor the guy who had served the country. Ang problema natin dito ngayon is coming from the heart actually,” said Duterte.
