Duterte apologizes to God shortly after saying He’s ‘stupid’
President Duterte apologized to God immediately after making the “God is stupid” remark.
The President himself “confessed” this when he met Jesus Is Lord founder Bro. Eddie Villanueva in a meeting in Malacanang last Tuesday night.
This was when Villanueva explained to Duterte his sentiment on the need for the President to apologize not to the people or to the religion but to God for what he believed as blasphemous remark.
“Ang sagot kaagad naman ni Presidente, sabi niya, I already did that. Eh di nagulat si Bro. Eddie (Villanueva and he asked), “when, Mr. President?” (and he was told by Duterte) ‘immediately after I made those remarks and said to God na, ‘Sorry God,’ sabi niya, ‘hindi ka kasama dito. You’re not included. Sinasabi ko lang ito because itong si Fox, iyong sister, is using you in vain dahil ginagamit niya iyong relihiyon to violate the law,” iyon ang context,” , Presidential Legal Counsel Sec. Salvador Panelo, who was at the said meeting, said in radio interview.
Duterte was referring to Australian nun Sister Patricia Fox, who the President claimed triggered him to utter those remarks saying “she’s using religion to violate the law.”
“Kaya nagulat si Brother (Eddie), iyon pala ang context noon? Pinaliwanag ni Presidente kung bakit niya nasabi iyon,” Panelo narrated.
Villanueve criticized the President for his remarks and even threatened in a TV interview that he will organize a huge rally if Duterte will refuse to apologize for insulting God in his speech.
Panelo, who stood as Villanueva’s election lawyer in the past, acted as mediator and arranged for the said meeting held at the Malago Clubhouse in Malacanang Park and lasted for two hours and a half.
“If it’s the same God, I’m sorry, that’s how it is. Sorry, God. I said sorry God. If God is taken in a generic term by everybody listening then that’s well and good,” the President said in a video taken on the said meeting and released by Malacanang yesterday.
“But my concept of God when it is put at stake by the other people using a name of God in vain….remember that there is a division between Church and State. You can criticize us anything at all, from the garbage collector to the generals and all and even to the vice president and senators…but never, never use the name of God as a front to attack government because that is not the proper way to do it. There is a separation of Church and State. Do not use God to attack government. That is not proper. I’m sure that’s not want God wants,” Duterte said.
“I owe it to all but I only apologize to God, nobody else. If I wronged God, he would be happy to listen. Why? Because my God is all forgiving. Why? Because He does not remember past hurt. Why? Because God created me to be good and not bad,” he added.
