National Artist Almario appointed new NCCA chair

National Artist for literature Virgilio Almario has been designated as the new head of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The appointment of the Filipino poet was shared on Facebook by Film Development Council of the Philippines head Liza Diño-Seguerra.

“National artist Virgilio S. Almario a.k.a RIO ALMA is the newly elected CHAIR of National Commission for Culture and the Arts. Way to go My favorite dean (he used to be dean of UP College of Arts and Letters) ❤️
Wooohoooo!!!” Dino said in a Facebook post.

The NCCA also issued a statement confirming the new chairman of the commission.

“Almario was elected for the term 2017 to 2019 and shall lead the NCCA Board of Commissioners composed of representatives from the legislative, executive and the private sectors,” the NCCA statement read.

“Chairman Almario continues to champion language and literature as the Chairman of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino (KWF). He also was Executive Director to the NCCA from 1998 to 2001,” it added.
