Duterte appoints Wesmincom head as AFP chief
President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed Western Mindanao Command chief Lieutenant General Carlito Galvez as the next chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Malacañang said Thursday (April 5).
Galvez, who played a key role in the Marawi siege, will replace AFP chief General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, whose term Duterte extended last December.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said Galvez will take his oath as AFP chief on April 18.
The incoming AFP chief, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1985, thanked Duterte for his appointment in a phone interview with reporters.
“I would like to make this opportunity that I will do my best with honor, integrity, and loyalty that I will serve the President…the best way I can,” he said.
