Duterte blasts Morales: Rendahan mo yang bunganga mo, akala mo santo ka
President Rodrigo Duterte has slammed Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales for saying he was “goading people to kill” as part of his campaign against illegal drugs.
In his speech at the oath-taking of new government officials, Duterte said he was willing to step down if Morales can find a law which says he cannot threaten criminals with death.
“Find me a law which would bar me from saying, ‘I will destroy you if you destroy my country.’ Because if you can do that, I will step down tomorrow, ibigay mo lang sa akin,” he said.
The President said Morales should look in her own backyard first considering that her office was also mired in corruption allegations under her predecessors.
Addressing the Ombudsman, Duterte said: “Huwag ka nga masyadong, ‘killing, killing.’ Why? What is your…? Since when did you anoint yourself as the spokesman for the criminals? Masyado ‘yung bunganga mo. Rendahan mo ‘yang bunganga mo kay may problema, totoo.”
“Ayusin mo ‘yang Ombudsman mo, akala mo santo kayo diyan. Do not play God and shut up,” Duterte added.
In an interview with Japan’s NHK World on July 13, Morales said Duterte statements on killing were a “problem.”
“He’s goading people to kill people. That’s a problem. His communications people say, ‘that’s hyperbole,'” she said.
Morales said it was unacceptable for Duterte to threaten to kill people even if people or the police do not believe he will make good on his word.
Duterte said Morales should be “ashamed” of herself if she cannot produce a law which makes it illegal for him to threaten criminals since she used to be a Supreme Court associate justice while he just survived law school with barely passing grades.
“Ako, ordinaryo lang, 75. Pero alam ko ang batas ko, eh ikaw dumating ka pa ng Supreme Court, hindi mo pa alam iyan. Mahiya ka sa sarili mo,” he said.
