Only Duterte could do it: De Lima says Bilibid riot had President’s blessing
Senator Leila de Lima on Wednesday (Jan. 4) claimed it was actually President Duterte himself who ordered the staging of a “riot” inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to force convicted kidnapper Jaybee Sebastian into testifying against her.
“Ang Pangulo mismo. Hindi naman ‘yan ipapagawa kung walang blessings sa taas o kaya sa kanyang mga operators, through his operators. He has enforcers. He has operators. Kaya nga tinatanong ko, magkano na Pangulo, ang nagagastos nyo dyan sa obsession nyo sa akin?” she asked.
De Lima tagged Duterte in the riot after Justice Sec. Vitaliano Aguirre II revealed the information yielded from the affidavit of one of the inmates naming the senator along with Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV as the culprits behind the Sept. riot incident that left one detained drug lord Tony Co dead.
Aguirre, the senator said, is merely engaging in fabrication of stories upon the President’s orders.
“Sila, sila lahat na mga gumagawa ng story nay an and led by no less than our President kasi ang Presidente naman ang nagsasabi na gusto nya talaga akong ma-destroy. Ang Pangulo ang nagsasabi ng ‘I will surely land in jail.’ Ang Pangulo ang nagsasabi na ako ang drug trade queen, na ako ang leading narco-politician,” she said.
Given the enormity of grudge Duterte is holding against her, De Lima wondered how much he– or other characters– have been spending to pin her down on drug-related charges.
She said the services of the President’s supposed operators, including Solicitor General Jose Calida, lawyer Ferdinand Topacio and former whistleblower Sandra Cam, do not come cheap.
“Hindi naman pupuwedent libre lahat yan. Syempre may mga bayad ‘yan, may mga budget ‘yan. Sinong pumopondo sa kanila?” the senator inquired, referring to critics and those who have filed formal charges against her before the DOJ such as the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) and other personalities.
