Is Duterte dying? Rumors prompt CIA to check on President’s health- report
Rumors about President Rodrigo Duterte’s health due to his five-day absence in the public eye was so widespread that even the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had to check if they were true.
This was disclosed by Philippine Star columnist and media executive Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez, who is known for his extensive connections with the powers-that-be in the US.
In his June 18 column, Romualdez said a “friend” from Washington told him that the CIA had to validate reports about Duterte’s health since there were “deathly rumors” being spread about him.
Citing information from another source, however, Romualdez said Duterte had to take a rest because he was tired from his recent travels.
He believes the President’s trip to Russia last May– which had to be cut short due to the crisis in Marawi City– “must have been the trigger” for his fatigue since the flight was 14 hours long.
The 72-year-old Duterte returned to his public duties on June 17 by gracing the celebrating of the 50th founding anniversary of Agusan Del Norte and meeting with troops in Butuan City.
Contrary to rumors, Duterte joked he was never in a coma but was just in his “kama” (bed) the entire time he was out of the public eye.
