Duterte eyes creating a commission to probe Ombudsman: Don’t force my hand into it!
President Rodrigo Duterte has threatened to create a commission that will investigate the Office of the Ombudsman as it launched a probe on his family’s wealth.
In an interview aired over state-run PTV-4 Thursday (September 28), Duterte said the Ombudsman’s supposed “partiality” should be looked into.
“You have to be investigated also. One of these days, kayo ang sigurado kong hahabulin dahil nga sa partiality ninyo,” he said.
Duterte said he himself will establish the commission that will investigate the Ombudsman and its employees.
“Magkagulo tayo niyan kasi sino ang maibestiga sa kalokohan ninyo? What is the remedy of the Filipino kung kayo mag-sige hingi? Huwag mo akong lokohin. Don’t force my hand into it,” he said.
Duterte’s threat came a day after the Ombudsman announced the start of its probe into his alleged ill-gotten wealth after finding sufficient basis in Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s complaint against him.
Overall Deputy Ombudsman Arthur Carandang said is office has approved the Deputy Ombudsman for Mindanao’s request to obtain the Anti-Money Laundering Council’s report on the bank transactions of Duterte and his family members when he was mayor of Davao City.
Trillanes has accused Duterte of having over P211 million in undeclared deposits in his bank accounts.
