Duterte hints ‘unknown’ Panelo might be bringing his sartorial taste to the Senate
President Rodrigo Duterte may have inadvertently revealed the political ambitions of his legal adviser while he was talking at a gathering of politikos Tuesday (March 14).
In a speech at the first general assembly of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines at Manila Hotel, Duterte told Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo to stand up so the crowd can recognize him.
“Ayan si Panelo ‘yung Presidential Legal… Sal? Tumindig ka nga. Hindi ka kilala nila,” he said.
Duterte then quipped that he won’t support Panelo’s senatorial bid unless he stands up.
“Atty. Panelo, ating Presidential… O, hindi kita susuportahan pagka-senador,” he said, eliciting applause from the audience.
Before his appointment as Duterte’s legal adviser, Panelo reportedly wanted to become the country’s ambassador to a European country.
