Wrong ocean.

Twitterverse has pooh-poohed the latest attempt on jet ski diplomacy by the Duterte administration at the uncontested waters of Aurora province.

Several netizens have voiced concerns that government should take stronger steps to assert the country’s ownership of the West Philippine Sea being challenged by China, instead of venturing on publicity stunts at the undisputed Philippine Rise off the coast of Aurora.

President Duterte earlier abandoned plans to visit the Philippine Rise and instead sent off a team of Filipino marine explorers aboard a Navy ship docked at the Casiguran Bay in Aurora.

Duterte also did push through with the proposed jet ski ride at the area formerly known as Benham Rise, and instead let his son Sebastian Duterte, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr., and assistant Christopher Go go for a few jet ski rounds in Casiguran Bay.

“So, how is riding a jetski in our unchallenged territorial waters (Casiguran Bay) an assertion of sovereignty? Dun kayo sa West Philippine Sea mag jetski,” former Bayan Muna party list Rep. Teddy Casiño tweeted.

Former Akbayan party list Rep. Barry Gutierrez said the jet ski stunt by the young Duterte was a waste of money and gasoline. “Madaling maging matapang kung wala ka na ngang kaharap na kalaban, nasa maling dagat ka pa. Aksaya na naman ng oras, pera, at gasolina. #BestAndTheBrightest #jetski,” he tweeted.

Akbayan party list Rep. Tom Villarin also said Duterte’s “jetski foreign policy anchored on a joke and nonsensical position” was detrimental to the country. “If seriously made just to appease China then it’s highly treasonous & revolting to us Filipinos. Time we marooned him off to the WPS & Benham Rise!” he tweeted.

“Bilib na sana ako kaso: (1) hindi ito si Digong, (2) taking off na ang pangangampanya ni presidential assistant, (3) sa Casiguran Bay lang to, malayo sa uncontested #PhilippineRise, at sobrang kayo sa kinakamkam na #WestPhilippineSea ng Tsina, (4) paskat,” @edrocksworld tweeted.

@DoDirtyExPress also sarcastically thanked the President’s assistant for showing the world that Aurora province belongs to the Philippines. “Salamat po Senator Bong Go sa tapang at sa pagwagayway ng bandila natin. Ngayon alam na po ng mundo na atin talaga ang Aurora,” he tweeted.
