Duterte mulls total ban on sending OFWs to Kuwait: Naaabuso lang ang Pilipino!
President Rodrigo Duterte is considering imposing a total ban on the deployment of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) to Kuwait following reports of sexual abuse.
During the launch of the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFB) Thursday (January 18), Duterte revealed that four Filipinas have been “lost” in Kuwait in the past few months.
“It’s always in Kuwait. So usap kami ni Alan. It’s either — my advise is, we talk to them, state the truth and just tell them that it‟s not acceptable anymore,” he said, referring to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano.
“Either we impose a total ban or we can have the… I do not want a quarrel with Kuwait. I respect their leaders, but they have to do something about this,” he added.
Duterte recalled a Middle Eastern leader telling him several years ago that sexual abuse is a possibility that OFWs could face there.
“Palagay ko hindi na yan nakatiis na ganun,” he said of employers who sexually abuse OFWs.
According to Workabroad.ph, Kuwait is the fourth top destination for OFWs in 2017.
