Duterte says if any of his Cabinet traveled first class, they’d be fired the next day
President Rodrigo Duterte said that nobody would believe Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno’s claim that he could travel first class using her own money.
“If you (Sereno) have the money, okay you — pa-upgrade ka (from economy). Pero travel first class that is flaunting… Who would believe that you’re using your own money, mag-travel ka nang ganun? Ba’t, mapaniwala mo ba ‘yung mga kasama mong Pilipino diyan sa eroplano na pera mo ‘yung ginagamit mo?” said Duterte in a media interview Tuesday.
Duterte confirmed that it was Sereno she was referring to in a speech last April as the non-Executive official whose travel habits were under scrutiny.
“[That government official] is traveling abroad via first-class airplane [cabin]. And the room in the hotels where [that person] stayed is first class. One room used is a presidential suite. This will come out,” said Duterte.
Sereno’s alleged opulent lifestyle is one of the basis of the impeachment complaint filed gainst her.
“Sabagay ako nagta-travel, pero hindi naman tayo pwede lahat maging Presidente eh. Kung gusto mo palit na lang tayo. ‘Yung mga luxury rooms pati ‘yung..,” said Duterte.
“Alam mo, pati itong mga Cabinet members ko, you point out sa… may Cabinet member ako na mag-travel ng first class, ‘di bukas wala nang trabaho ‘yan,” he added.
