Duterte says CHR is virtually abolished with P1k budget: 2 hamburger lang ni Gascon yan, wala na
President Rodrigo Duterte said Chito Gascon should just accept his fate that the Commission on Human Rights Chair has been virtually expunged after Congress gave it a measly P1,000 allocation in the proposed 2018 budget.
“Eh parang halos i-abolish na ‘yan eh. Walang… Binigyan lang ng 1,000,” said Duterte in an interview with PTV-4 Tuesday night.
“Ang Congress kinuha ‘yung 600 million nila na budget for the office. So wala ng Human Rights kung walang panggastos,” he added.
Last week, the House of Representatives voted 1991 to 32 to slash CHR’s proposed 2018 budget from P678 milion to a token P1,000.
Speaker Bebot Alvarez was candid in admitting that this was payback for Gascon’s relentless needling on Duterte’s brutal war on drugs.
Duterte said P1,000 would just be enough to buy a day’s snack for the former director-general of the Liberal Party.
“Kulang… Kulang ‘yan sa meryenda ni Gascon. Dalawang meryenda niyang hamburger, wala na,” said Duterte.
Duterte suggested that Congress reallocate the over P600 million meant for CHR to the Philippine National Police to purchase body cameras and increase transparency during their controversial drug raids.
