President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday thanked God typhoon “Ompong” was not as violent as forecasted earlier.
Duterte made the remark during a situation briefing at the Cagayan Provincial Capitol in Tuguegarao City.
“This is not really to minimize or maybe downgrade the damage pero compared with what I have seen in the past, we thank God that it lang ang inabot natin,” the chief executive said.
“It was not so severe as we expected it to be. Because earlier it was touted that malakas rin ito and so it got everybody worried,” he added.
Duterte also said he made the right decision when he directed some of his Cabinet members to monitor the effects of Ompong in Northern Luzon.
“It was the time I said the Cabinet members should be here especially those ‘yung provinces (nila),” said the President.
On Thursday, Duterte ordered Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III and Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade to personally check the situation in the Cagayan province.
