Duterte secures promise from ‘idol’ Putin: Russia ready to develop military alliance with PH

Nov 11, 2017 @ 11:14

Russian President Vladimir Putin told President Rodrigo Duterte that Russia is ready to develop its military alliance with the Philippines further.

During their bilateral meeting in Da Nang, Vietnam Friday (November 10), Putin said the threat of terrorism is a shared threat between Russia and the Philippines.

“I would like to say that terrorism is one of our common problem and common challenge and following our agreement, we are ready to keep developing our relations, including in the military area and the tactical and military area,” he told Duterte.

The two leaders are in Vietnam for the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

Putin lauded the Philippine President for defeating terrorists in Marawi, noting that Duterte had to cut his trip to Russia short in May because of the crisis.

“You told me while you were leaving Russia, you told me that you had to go back and install law and order to attack terrorists that’s why I’d like to say that you managed to do just that,” he said.

In October, Russia donated 5,000 units of Kalashnikov rifles and other military equipment to the Philippine government.
