Duterte signs EO on aggressive family planning
President Duterte has signed Executive Order 12 that aims for wider implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act to ensure that the needs of Filipino women who want to use family planning methods are met.
Ernesto Pernia, secretary-general of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA), said the EO is real for the provision of modern family planning services for those who want to avail them. These will be given for free.
“This is telling the public including the Supreme Court that the government cannot continue to tolerate delay in judgement,” Pernia said in a briefing in Malacanang.
In the EO signed last January 9, 2017, Duterte ordered the intensified and accelerated implementation of critical actions necessary to attain and sustain the zero unmet need for modern family planning for all poor households by 2018, and all of Filipinos. The move will all be made within the context of the RPRH Law, and its implementing rules and regulations.
The Department of health, Commission on Population, Department of Interior and Local Government, and other relevant national government agencies shall work closely with all local government units for the implementation of the strategies.
