Duterte mum on appointing Carpio as Chief Justice: I’ll decide after crossing the bridge

Is Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice Antonio Carpio the next Chief Justice?
“I will decide that when I cross the bridge,” President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday said.
Teresita Leonardo-de Castro will retire on Wednesday after serving 44 days as chief justice.
Asked about his expectations for the Chief Justice replacement, Duterte said “I’m still toying with the so many names. Ang bagong… If there’s any vacancy there — I don’t know if there’s a vacant one there.”
He added he would fill the Supreme Court vacancy “with good men and there are few good men in this planet. We’ll have to search them far and wide.”
Carpio earlier declined his nomination to Chief Justice post following the ouster of Ma. Lourdes Sereno based on the quo warranto petition against her. He opposed the ruling ousting Sereno by way of the quo warranto procedure.
