Duterte taunts military officers plotting his ouster: Hindi ako takot sa inyo!
President Rodrigo Duterte is challenging military officers reportedly planning to kick him out office to just do it.
“Hindi ako takot. Bakit daw matakot? Anong katakutan ko? Ano bang kasalanan ko sa inyo?” said Duterte in a briefing upon his arrival from Jordan.
Duterte was reacting to rumors of an alleged coup plot being hatched against him by a military faction loyal to former Magdalo leader Senator Antonio Trillanes IV.
Duterte has issued Proclamation 572 which declared void ab initio the 2011 amnesty granted to Trillanes for his leading role in the Oakwood mutiny and Manila Peninsula siege.
Duterte said he would not go down in history pitting uniformed men against each other.
“Pero if the military and the police — I will not… Patayin ang sundalo, patayin ang sundalo. Puro ko sundalo kasi ako ang Commander–in-Chief and history would judge me as tang inang gagon ‘to, sa panahon niya pina-away niya ‘yung mga sundalo niya pati pulis nagbabarilan,” said Duterte.
“You know, kung kayo-kayo lang niyan, magbakbakan lang tayo, matulog na lang ako,” he added.
While he has been extra generous to soldiers with their salry hikes and other benefits, Duterte said he has not hesitated in pulling the trigger on kicking out top military officers for corruption.
“Pati general nga sa Armed Forces of the Philippines eh. He was the latest person that I fired, not because I’m afraid of — I’m not doing anything — anybody a favor,” he said.
Duterte fired Brig. Gen. Edwin Leo Torrelavega, chief of V. Luna, and Col. Antonio Punzalan, who heads the logistics office of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center, more popularly known by its old name V. Luna General Hospital, due to corruption.
