Duterte bares why Trillanes boldly signed waiver for bank accounts: Marami siyang kapangalan!

President Rodrigo Duterte believes Senator Antonio Trillanes IV readily issued a waiver for his bank accounts because he did not indicate “the fourth” in his offshore bank accounts.

In an interview over PTV-4 aired Friday (September 15), Duterte noted that Trillanes has several namesakes.

“Sabihin niya, ‘Hindi ito akin. Marami kaming Antonio Trillanes.’ Kasi ‘yung pinirmahan nila, ‘Antonio Trillanes’ lang. Sasabihin, ‘Hindi akin ‘yan. Mrami akong… Baka… maski sa ibang lugar, may Antonio Trillanes,'” he said.

“Maybe this is the reason why he is willing to sign a bank waiver. Because no four or number four in the name of Antonio Trillanes,” he added.

Trillanes recently signed a waiver authorizing the Office of the Ombudsman and the Anti-Money Laundering Council to look into all of his bank accounts.

Duterte, however, said he was able to confirm that Trillanes owned the bank accounts he purportedly has overseas, including in Zurich, Switzerland and Singapore.

“Check on this name because the senator’s complete name is Antonio Fuentes Trillanes, will force to the wall the senator says the bank accounts belong,” he said.

Duterte said one of Trillanes’ bank accounts in Zurich had a balance of US$75,000 or P3.8 million before it was closed down. Another shuttered account in Singapore had a balance of “193,000,” though the President did not say if this was a foreign currency.
