President Rodrigo Duterte will fly to Bali, Indonesia on Wednesday to attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Leaders’ Gathering on October 11.
In a pre-departure briefing, Assistant Secretary for Asean Affairs Junever Mahilum-West on Monday said Duterte will join other leaders of ASEAN member states in “managing economic growth to create better prosperity and equity as well as delivering meaningful progress in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The gathering, which will also be attended by International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, Mahilum-West said, “will discuss key issues related to building synergy in strengthening financial stability in the region and accelerating economic development and regional integration as well as exploring potential collaboration to achieve development goals.”
Duterte, for his part, will tackle his government’s efforts to improve efforts in achieving the sustainable development goals and improving support for micro, small and medium enterprises.
The chief executive would also call for economic resilience amid prevailing global economic uncertainties, according to the ASEAN official.
She added the gathering will last for two and a half hours.
