Duterte to fire namedropping DOTr Asec who exposed Mindanao Railway scandal: Walang First Family, First Lady sa akin!
President Rodrigo Duterte will fire a Department of Transportation executive for namedropping the “First Family” in his expose on moves inside the agency to delay the P36 billion project to accommodate China.
Duterte was furious after learning that Transportation Assistant Secretary Mark Tolentino sought the help of his sister in his bid to stop DOTr officials led by Undersecretary Joel Batan from derailing the Mindanao railway project because they wanted China to bankroll the entire project even though the government has budgeted the project’s first phase.
Tolentino claimed that he had the blessings of the “First Family” when he exposed moves to favor China last Friday.
But Duterte was not amused by Tolentino’s antics as he was averse to people seeking favors from members of his family.
“At may isa dito, sinabi ko na , mabuti kasi may TV, do not entertain requests or give favors to any of my family. Huwag sa asawa ko, huwag sa akin, huwag sa mga anak, huwag sa mga pinsan ko,” said Duterte in a speech in Talisay, Negros Occidental.
“Now if you try to say i asked the help of the first family because you cannot decide on a certain thing which you think would need, why do you have to consult my sister? Di ba sinabi ko puta wag kayo… if it’s a relative of mine, consider it denied,” he added.
Duterte was particularly annoyed by Tolentino’s claim that his expose had the backing of the “First Family.”
“Ngayon kung ipasabi mo yan na kinausap ko yung miyembro, there is no such thing as a First Family in this country. This is a democratic country you only have the president. That title of a first lady is a myth. pwede na yan sa mga royalty. Why do you have to, kaya kanina humabol, just before i flew here,” he said.
But Duterte said he has made up his mind to fire Tolentino.
“This guy he ran afoul within the department and sought the help of I think my sister. At inilagay niya doon sa ano that he went to the — for succor or for help from the first family at sinabi sa kanya ‘go,’” he said.
“Sabi ko, ‘tanggalin mo.’ Sabi ko, ‘fire him out.’ His violation? He violated my order na pagka ako ang minention or talking to my relatives, even on a conversation about a project only, t***, sisipain talaga kita,” he said.
