Duterte wants LGBT rep in urban poor body: Basta bright, honest!
President Rodrigo Duterte has expressed willingness to appoint a member of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender) community to the Presidential Commission on the Urban Poor (PCUP).
Duterte on Sunday (December 17) said he’s in the process of selecting the new commissioners of PCUP since he fired all of its top officials last week.
“Bigyan ninyo ako ng bright na tao. He might be gay, he might be lesbian. I’d like to nominate or appoint somebody upon the nomination,” he said in a speech at the 7th year-end party of the LGBT community in Davao City.
“You nominate somebody who is honest, hardworking. And I would like to show that any, any ma-bakla man o ma-tomboy can — well, can always work just like an ordinary human being,” he added.
Duterte said the only non-negotiable requirements he has for a commissioner is that the person is bright and honest.
He said he is giving the LGBT community until the second week of January to nominate a representative to PCUP.
PCUP chair Terry Ridon and his fellow commissioners got into hot water for their junkets and alleged failure to meet regularly as a body.
Duterte recently said he wants 2009 CNN Hero of the Year Efren Peñaflorida, who popularized the idea of a “kariton classroom,” to head PCUP.
