Duterte warns economy will be worse while he’s President: Talagang sa panahon ko maghirap tayo!
Filipinos better brace for tough months ahead, as no less than President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that the economy will be worse under his watch.
Returning from his trip to Indonesia Friday (October 13), Duterte blamed the lack of oil supply for the rising prices of basic goods.
He said even a small increase in oil prices in the world market jack up the prices of goods sold in the country since several industries use oil.
“This is not the end of the story, guys. Sabihin ninyo panahon ko talagang maghirap. If things will move forward in accordance with the present calculations now, talagang sa panahon ko maghirap tayo. Kung mag-wala kayo, ‘di lahat na tayo. Mag-wala na tayong lahat kasi ako apektado rin. Iyan ang problema ngayon,” Duterte said in a press conference at the Davao City International Airport.
The President warned that the economy may suffer even more if the Philippines is dragged into the United States’ trade war with China.
He said he will appeal to Trump to spare the Philippines from the trade war if ever they meet again.
“Si Trump, kaibigan ko. So kung magkita lang naman kami — kung magkita kami — sabihin ko, ‘Pareng Donald, ano ba namang… Huwag mong… Pati Pilipinas niyan,'” Duterte said.
