Duterte warns gov’t workers on pasyal-pasyal: ‘Pag wala ka sa opisina mo, dismissal’
President Rodrigo Duterte has had enough of government employees who can’t do their jobs because they attend to their personal business or stay idle during office hours.
Swift dismissal await government employees in the executive branch who are not in their offices during workdays, Duterte said Sunday (July 31).
“Kaya ako dito sa executive department— hindi ko kasi kontrolado yung Congress pati judiciary— dito sa akin, pag wala ka diyan sa opisina, I will just… dismissal,” he said at the thanksgiving party for the Presidential Security Group (PSG) in Malacañang Park.
Those who would protest their dismissal could go to the courts if they wish, the President added.
Duterte maintained that government employees must render the work expected of them each working day since their paychecks come from the people.
“I’m warning everybody… Kung binayaran ka for eight hours, do not shortchange the Filipino.
So kung magtrabaho ka lang diyan tapos after lunch break, di na bumabalik, nanonood ng sine, pumupunta sa mall… So kung yung bayad namin good for eight hours pero ang ni-report mo three to four hours, that’s swindling. You’re swindling the Filipino people of their money,” he said.
The President issued the warning against idle and underperforming public employees after he aired his exasperation at the inefficiency of certain government agencies when it comes to rendering service to the people.
Taking a jab at the Land Transportation Office, Duterte said: “Lisensya, wala pa. Plate, wala pa. Bayad na yan two, three years ago. Anong klaseng…”
The President likewise expressed his frustration at the bribes people have to pay to get documents from the government even as some heads of office aren’t present at work because they’re attending to their personal business.
