Duterte won’t issue waiver to Trillanes: Why would I give him that pleasure? Maghanap siya!
President Rodrigo Duterte will not take on Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s dare for him to issue waivers for all of his bank accounts, saying the lawmaker must work on his own to find evidence against him.
In an interview Tuesday (September 12), Duterte said Trillanes “must be stupid” for expecting him to provide evidence regarding the allegation that he has over P200 million in undeclared bank deposits.
“Bakit kita — Why would I give you the pleasure? Kung gusto siyang maghanap, ‘di maghanap siya. Bakit niya ako damayin,” he told reporters after visiting a soldier’s wake at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.
Duterte noted that he had to “go to lengths” to secure evidence of Trillanes’ alleged offshore bank accounts.
Trillanes dared Duterte to sign a waiver for his bank accounts after signing a similar document authorizing the Anti-Money Laundering Council and the Office of the Ombudsman to look into all of his bank accounts.
In response, Malacañang said Duterte already issued a waiver when Trillanes first floated the allegations against him during the campaign season.
