Duterte’s “Doblado” Promise to Finally Come True in 2018
Department of Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno said members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) may finally see their take home pay “doubled” starting 2018.
Diokno, in a media briefing in Malacanang, said the increase that was promised by President Duterte would have been made sooner if Congress is able the pass the tax measures sought by the administration as soon as possible.
“The way I see it, as far as the military is concerned. We would be able to comply with the desire of the President to double their take home pay by January of 2018, okay. Sooner, if we pass the tax reform,” he said.
The President had repeatedly promised to double the salaries of the soldiers during his visits to the different military camps.
Diokno said government had been implementing salary adjustment, for all government employees including the military and police, in tranches and is set to implement the second of the four-tranche salary hike stating January this year.
A solider, with the rank of private, who had received an annual salary of P342,936 in 2016 is expected to receive P436,138 this year. This would be on top of the other allowances and other benefits given to the soldiers.
