Eh di gawin mo: Bag-Ao unperturbed by ‘no’ vote consequences

Bring it on, Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez.

That was practically Dinagat Island Rep. Kaka Bag-Ao’s message Tuesday night (March 7) as she explained her “no” vote to the death penalty restoration bill on the plenary floor.

“Mr. Speaker, my dear colleagues—I vote NO to the proposal to reinstate the death penalty based on our fundamental values anchored on social justice and human rights and dignity,” she said.

Bag-Ao was the first House leader in the roll call vote to vote negatively on the controversial measure. She chairs the Committee on People Participation.

Alvarez earlier vowed to replace Committee heads who refuse to support the return of capital punishment in the country.

Bag-Ao doesn’t seem to care.

thank you madam congresswoman Bag-Ao! May your tribe increase, and may your ferocity in defending your principles be a model for the other so called representatives who are content in sitting on the fence in exchange for political favors and position!
