ERC’s Salazar seeks Paolo Duterte’s help to ward off DOE’s Al Cusi
Disgraced Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) chairperson Jose Vicente “Joe” Salazar is getting cozy to presidential son and Davao City Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte in a bid to save his neck amid the controversies he is facing.
If the photo posted by the younger Duterte on his Instagram account is any indication, Salazar is indeed making progress.
The photo showed the two men smiling together, with Duterte praising Salazar as an ally in the bid to make electricity rates lower.
Salazar, however, has less than noble intentions for getting close to the younger Duterte.
Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi has long wanted to Salazar to be fired in light of the corruption controversies he is facing.
Salazar has been tagged in the suicide of bids and awards committee chair Director Francisco Villa Jr.
The late ERC director accused Salazar of pressuring him to approve illegal deals.
Despite the President’s demand for his resignation, Salazar has stayed put in his post. He enjoys security of tenure as he has a fixed, seven-year term.
