Ex-FG Arroyo: Trillanes, man up you coward
By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN
MANILA – Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel “Mike” Arroyo on Tuesday (September 4) dared embattled Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV to submit himself to authorities following the revocation of the amnesty given to him in 2011.
In a Facebook post, Arroyo called Trillanes a “coward” after deciding to be placed under Senate custody instead of surrendering to the members of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP CIDG).
“Trillanes, man up you coward” the former First Gentleman said.
Proclamation No. 572 signed by Duterte on August 31 stated that the amnesty given to Trillanes by then-President Benigno Aquino III was void from the start because of his failure to comply with the “minimum requirements to qualify under the amnesty proclamation.”
The presidential proclamation was published in the Manila Times Tuesday.
Instead of hiding in the Senate, Arroyo said Trillanes should just “surrender to the authorities and prepare for your defense.”
Trillanes together with other Magdalo soldiers staged a failed coup against Arroyo’s wife, former President and now House Speaker Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at the posh Oakwood Residences in 2003.
In 2007, he and several other rebel soldiers stage another unsuccessful power play against the Arroyo Administration at the Manila Peninsula.
They were granted amnesty in 2011 by then-President Benigno Aquino III.
