Ex-solon Ridon offended by Speaker Alvarez’s daughter. Find out why
Former Kabataan party-list Rep. Terry Ridon has admitted Sunday (January 8) to being personally offended by a Department of Finance (DOF) official who claimed that the proposed Social Security System (SSS) pension hike and land use moratorium merely aim to “pander to short-term populist initiatives”.
“Calling the SSS pension hike and the land use conversion moratorium mere short-term populist initiatives for pogi points is an unacceptable slight aimed squarely at millions of income poor pensioners, farmers and urban poor,” said Ridon, who now chairs the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP).
The ex-militant solon was referring to remarks made by DOF Spokesperson Paola Alvarez, who just happens to be the daughter of House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez. The Speaker is a close friend of President Rodrigo Duterte’s.
“The President was swept to power on the strength of his support for the pension hike, and his clear concern for the day-to-day problems of our people. This was not something made up just to grab the headlines of the evening news,” Ridon said.
“By opposing social justice measures directly benefiting the daily lives of our people, we betray our promise to take care of them, especially their day-to-day concerns,” he added.
