Outgoing Customs Commissioner Nicanor Faeldon has challenged Senator Richard Gordon to investigate the son of Senator Panfilo Lacson for smuggling multibillion-peso worth of cement into the country.
In a press conference in Rizal Thursday (August 24), Faeldon revealed that Bonjourno, the company of Panfilo Lacson Jr., undervalued its cement shipments by declaring its freight cost as only $8 per bag when the prevailing market rate is from $16 to $20.
He said Bonjourno brought in 67 ships containing billions of pesos worth of cement since July 12 last year up to present.
Faeldon said he has all the documents to support his allegations against Lacson’s son.
“Hindi po ito kathang-isip, Senator Lacson. Ito po ay katotohanan. And I want you to investigate this. The Blue Ribbon committee, please investigate, because all of these are on record,” he said.
Gordon is the chairman of the Senate blue ribbon committee.
Citing information from the Cement Manufacturers’ Association of the Philippines, Faeldon said Bonjourno is the “biggest cement smuggler” in the country.
He expressed incredulity as to how Bonjourno was able to import billions of pesos worth of cement when its paid-up capitalization was only P20,000.
Addressing Lacson, Faeldon asked: “Senator Lacson, player ka ba? Kasi P20,000 yung capitalization ng kumpanya ng anak mo. Bilyon ang na-smuggle na ito through undervaluation.”
A day before Faeldon’s bombshell, the senator accused the Customs Commissioner and other former military officials in the Bureau of Customs of corruption.
