Formal with a twist: Duterte wears barong Tagalog but ditches socks

Aug 12, 2017 @ 18:57

President Rodrigo Duterte didn’t wear socks when he attended the centennial celebration of the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City Friday (August 11).

In his speech, Duterte said he ditched wearing socks because he disliked them.

“I don’t know if wearing of socks sa lalaki is formal or not. But I do not have it actually,” he said.

Duterte said he was supposed to attend the event wearing a black shirt but the Presidential Security Group reminded him he had to wear formal attire.

He revealed owning four barongs.

“Eh, iilan lang rin ang barong ko, apat lang siguro, pabalik-balik. Sabi ko, ‘Kunan mo ako ng isa,'” he said.
