Freudian slip? Duterte calls Aguirre ‘Chief Justice’
Is President Rodrigo Duterte eyeing Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II as Chief Justice?
Duterte had what appeared to be a Freudian slip when he spoke before policemen at the police force’s 116th anniversary Wednesday (August 9).
“You know, in the case of the policeman who are no charge, Marcos. The Secretary of Justice is here, Vit Aguirre. Not only that he’s a Chief Justice — Justice Secretary rather,” he said.
Duterte and Aguirre were classmates at the San Beda College of Law.
Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, an appointee of former President Benigno Aquino III, is facing the prospect of an impeachment as two complaints have been prepared against her.
These cases, however, have yet to be endorsed by any lawmaker in the House of Representatives.
Duterte has appointed three magistrates so far to the Supreme Court since assuming office last year.
