Friends lang muna! Sara: Hugpong ready to help PDP-Laban but won’t recruit its members
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has denied that her political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), intends to recruit members of PDP-Laban amid the internal dispute rocking the party.
In a statement Friday (August 10), Duterte maintained that HNP is a regional political party whose members are from Davao Region.
“While the party has supporters outside of Davao region, we advise them to form their own local parties or join other national parties– the NUP (National Union Party), NP (Nacionalista Party), NPC (Nationalist People’s Coalition) or PDP-Laban,” she said.
“HNP does not intend to recruit members of PDP-Laban or other national political parties,” Duterte added.
The presidential daughter made the statement a day after President Rodrigo Duterte met separately with the two feuding factions of PDP-Laban led by abogado Rogelio Garcia and Senator Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III.
Both claim to be the party’s president, though Garcia was only elected in controversial national assembly held last month.
Pimentel said the election’s results were not officially recognized by the party and the actions of Garcia’s group were unauthorized.
Duterte said she finds it “unfortunate” that PDP-Laban is embroiled in an internal problem and hopes the factions within the party will be able to resolve their differences soon.
She said HNP is ready to assist the ruling party if there is anything it can do to help.
“HNP is offering a hand of friendship to all other political parties who support the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte,” the mayor said.
