G! Here’s why Ex-SolGen Florin Hilbay wants Sereno, Morales to resign with Duterte
This isn’t a joke: Former Solicitor General Florin Hilbay supports President Rodrigo Duterte’s challenge for Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno and Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales to resign together with him.
In a tweet posted Sunday (October 1), Hilbay, a law professor at the University of the Philippines, explained why he’s “G!” or game with Duterte’s challenge.
For starters, Duterte’s resignation will make Vice President Leni Robredo the new President. Sereno, meanwhile, can re-apply for the position of Chief Justice should she quit.
Under a new administration, Morales can be appointed as Justice Secretary.
Probably the best part for Hilbay is the fact that Duterte can’t reclaim the presidency if he resigns, in accordance with Articles VII, IX, XI of the Constitution.
“Fun game,” he quipped.
In a speech before the members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines’ Davao City chapter Saturday (September 30), Duterte challenged Sereno and Morales to go with him to Congress so they can all sign their letters of resignation.
Duterte made the dare amid the Office of the Ombudsman’s ongoing investigation into his and his family’s wealth.
VP becomes P; CJ can re-apply for CJ; OMB can become SOJ. P who resigns can't return.
