Game plan for 2019: Is GMA running for senator so Mikey can return as congressman?
Did former President and now Pampanga Rep. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo join the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) because she has her eyes set on a Senate seat?
Speculation swirled about Arroyo’s political plans since she bolted her long-time party, Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) this week.
The rumor that the former President will run for senator further gained ground when Senate President Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III was asked about the prospect of running alongside her in 2019.
“That is life. Things change,” he told reporters Friday (October 13).
“But she must be the one to change by embracing the PDP-Laban’s core principles of belief in God, human dignity, love of country, equal opportunities for all, consultative and participatory democracy, and federalism,” Pimentel added.
Arroyo is now on her third and final term as the congressional representative of Pampanga’s second district. Could she be considering a senatorial bid so her son, Mikey, could return as a lawmaker?
Mikey served as congressman for Pampanga’s second district from 2004 to 2010, when he was replaced by his mother.
From 2010 to 2013, he represented the Ang Galing Pinoy party-list in Congress.
After a brief year break from politics, could Mikey be gearing for a return with the help of his mother?
