Genuino’s trial at Sandiganbayan to start Sept. 17
The Sandiganbayan 3rd Division is set to begin the graft trial former Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) Chief Efraim Genuino this September 17 over his alleged misuse of P37 million for the training of Olympic swimmers.
The anti-graft court set the trial date as it awaits the submission from the parties their respective pre-trial briefs which would list their respective pieces of evidence to be presented during the trial.
Genuino has been charged with two counts of graft concering the alleged misuse of funds intended for the training of Filipino swimmers preparing for the 2012 Olympics.
Under the charges, Genuino is accused of having issued checks to the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association Inc. (PASA) from 2007 to 2009 without approval from the PAGCOR board of directors.
Apart from this, Genuino shouldn’t have issued the checks to PASA but should instead sent it to the Philippine Sports Commission (PCS), the agency PASA is attached to.
Graft investigators also learned that the swimming facility that the PASA used was also found belonging to Genuino and his family.
