Get ready for a bidding war: Duterte to sell Mile Long property after evicting Rufino-Prietos
President Rodrigo Duterte plans to sell the Mile Long property in Makati City after the company owned by the Rufino-Prieto family vacates it.
In a speech at the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption’s 19th anniversary Wednesday (August 16), Duterte said the property will be sold to the highest bidder.
“So ‘yang Sunvar na ‘yan, I’m selling it, bidding ‘yan. You want that piece of property? I’m putting you a notice,” he said.
Duterte said proceeds of the property’s sale will be used for the construction of more homes for soldiers.
Earlier in the day, the Rufino-Prietos’ Sunvar Realty Development Corporation said it will vacate the property in accordance with the ruling of the Court of Appeals.
Sunvar has argued that it has an existing lease contract with the government, which will expire in 2027.
Duterte, meanwhile, said the lease contract had expired in 2002 and the Rufino-Prietos have been illegally controlling the property since then.
