Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat is pushing for a better tourist-friendly Philippines to attract more travelers.

Puyat recently met with colleagues in the Cabinet to address safety, infrastructure and other issues to improve the experience of local and foreign travelers in the country.

Among the items discussed were improvement of arrival/departure experience at NAIA and other international gateways and improvement and expansion of secondary airports, including installation of night landing system.

“To get things done properly, not only do we have to work together but we need to work together well. Before more fun, we have to get work done🙌🏼 And this is exactly what happened last Friday when we had 3 cabinet members namely Sec Art Tugade (Dotr), Sec Mark Villar (Dpwh) , Sec Meynardo Guevara ( DOJ) and no less than the Bureau of Customs Commissioner (under the DOF led by the one and only Sec Sonny Dominguez) spend the whole afternoon in the office of the Department of Tourism to discuss airports, seaports, roads, security and tourism infrastructure! Basically, how to make it more fun in the Philippines for our local and international tourists🇵🇭♥️ #itsreallymorefuninthePhillipines when everyone just wants to work together for the common good🇵🇭👊🏻,” Puyat wrote on Instagram.

Also discussed were incentives for airlines flying to secondary international gateways, development of purpose-built cruise terminal in Manila, Visa Upon Arrival (VUA) privilege for certain markets, and development of access Roads and directional signs leading to tourist destinations.

“Puyat pointed out that it is imperative to fully engage the other agencies concerned with the implementation of the objectives of the National Tourism Development Plan for 2017-2022 through tourism infrastructure to increase air connectivity, improve accessibility to tourist sites, boost cruise tourism, and facilitate visitor
arrival-departure experience at the country’s international airports,” a Facebook post of the Department of Tourism read.

Present in the meeting were Public Works and Highways Mark Villar, Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra, and Customs chief Isidro Lapeña.
