Satisfaction with Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez’s performance rose by 2 points in the first quarter of 2017 despite the recent controversies he has been involved in, according to the results of the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.

The poll, conducted from March 25 to 28 nationwide, showed Alvarez’s satisfaction rating at a “moderate” +12 from +10 in December 2016.

Meanwhile, Senate President Aquilino Pimentel III’s satisfaction rating went down by 1 point from +30 to +29 for the period of January to March this year.

While the decline in Pimentel’s satisfaction rating was minimal, it put his current grade at “moderate” from “good” in the previous survey conducted last December.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings of +70 and above as “excellent”; +50 to +69 as “very good”; +30 to +49, “good”; +10 to +29, “moderate”; +9 to -9, “neutral”; -10 to -29, “poor”; -30 to -49, “bad”; -50 to -69, “very bad”; and -70 and below as “execrable.”

Alvarez has courted controversy over his decision to fire House leaders who did not vote in favor of the death penalty bill.

He is also embroiled in a tiff with his erstwhile bosom buddy, Davao del Norte Rep. Antonio “Tonyboy” Floirendo, over the lease contract entered into by a company the latter owns.
