Govt to build super bridges to connect PH islands, Mark Villar says
Getting across Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao by land will soon be a reality.
Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said the government was building a national bridge network to connect the country’s three major islands.
“When the inter-island bridge network is completed, Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will be connected via land travel. #BuildBuildBuild,” Villar wrote on Facebook.
The program includes construction of new roads and bridges to hasten transportation of people and goods across the country.
Among the infrastructure projects are Mindoro-Batangas super bridge, Panay-Guimaras-Negros link bridge, Cebu-Negros link bridge; Pangul Bay bridge; Gucam bridge, Camarines-Catanduanes bridge, Luzon-Samar link bridge, Cebu-Bohol link bridge, Bohol-Leyte link bridge, and Leyte-Surigao link bridge.
So far, Villar said the Department of Public Works and Highways has built 908 kilometers of tourism roads, 510 km of bypasses, diversion roads and missing gaps, 1,226 km of national roads, and 242 bridges.
